The word were getting is the two officers who were shot are okay. One officer shot in the lower back, the other in the chest. All of this happened around 3 30 this morning here in bed sty. We have cell phone video to show you. The exact circumstances are unclear but we know there was a car involved. You can see many gunshots to that vehicle and front end damage. The suspect was shot multiple times. We are getting word that that suspect, as of now, is still alive. Again, two officers hit by gunfire. One in the bull lest resistant vest. We mentioned commissioner bratton arriving on the scene. He visited the injured officers at the hospital. He has now arrived here and getting an update from the officers at the scene. Problem stalled the scaffolding around 1 30. The two men were trapped in rain, high winds and cold temperatures for nearly 75 minutes. The scaffolding stayed upright but firefighters didnt waste any time. We were able to secure them. The radio downtown to make them. Firefighters couldnt reach the men because the window doesnt open. They cut through thick layers of safety. Lewes merced is a scaffolding mechanic who was working on the rescue. How are they doing . Perfectly nine. They came off the rig laughing. To them its not that serious either. They were not hurt. The company that managing the scaffolding downplayed the danger of the situation. They could have rescued the workers on their own. Johnson live at the scene for us. Lets tell you exactly what happened. The students were outside of the walter f. Robinson school. There had been a fire drill a little bit earlier this afternoon. They were going back inside the school at the time. The horrific accident happened right out here on west 31st and jfk boulevard. The principal made the decision to go ahead and put a human chain with all the adults around the school so the students would not see the accident happening outside of their school. We understand the patient had just left out of a Doctors Office here on the corner of west 31st and jfk boulevard. He had walked out of the Doctors Office. Apparently he was getting ready to get inside his vehicle at the time. Thats when the 43yearold man was struck by a pickup truck that was heading northbound here in bayonne.
