COVID-19: The world needs to make 349 vaccines per second | Special-reports – Gulf News

To vaccinate at least 70% of planet’s 7.83 billion inhabitants (with a double dose) against COVID, at least 349 doses per second must be produced for the next 12 months. That’s a run rate equivalent to 20,935 vaccines per minute, according to the online “Max Vaccine Immunity Calculator”, drawn up by online number cruncher site Omni. It allows any user to calculate COVID-19 related numbers, including how long it would take for you to get a jab in your own country. Humans must learn to live with the coronavirus, as it becomes more or less permanent , say experts. The most effective way to deal with the virus, like the still-active pathogens that once tyrannised the world (i.e. polio, measles, smallpox), is to create a vaccine that helps train the immune system to mount a response. At least 8 vaccine makers have had their COVID-19 jabs authorised in different jurisdictions.

Russia Unlikely to Meet Promised 630M Target for COVID Vaccine Doses, Now Partnering with China

Russia Unlikely to Meet Promised 630M Target for COVID Vaccine Doses, Now Partnering with China On 5/3/21 at 1:09 PM EDT A London-based science analytics company, Airfinity, told the Associated Press that it estimates Russia agreed to give 630 million doses of its homegrown vaccine to more than 100 countries but has exported only 11.5 million doses so far. Moscow announced three deals totaling 260 million doses with Chinese vaccine companies in the past few weeks. The doses could reach countries in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa more quickly as a result of the partnership. The partnership is also a benefit for both Russian and Chinese interests. Rasmus Bech Hansen, founder and CEO of Airfinity, said Russia is very ambitious and unlikely to meet their full targets.
