The Open Door has established a new award in honor of a local philanthropist.Â
Dubbed the Dick Wilson Upsizer Award after Dick Wilson of Magnolia, the award was created to recognize the quiet and steady dedication of a lifetime spent doing good for others.
âDick has shown what a lifetime of doing good does for a community and The Open Door is proud to establish this award in his name. Heâs an inspiration,â said Julie LaFontaine, president and CEO of The Open Door. âFrom helping kids on the sports field to building homeless shelters, to creating a corporate culture of giving both in Boston and here in Gloucester, he says what he means, and he means what he says. He rolls up his sleeves, and is committed to âdoing-good-nessâ and committed to community.â

The Open Door, a local nonprofit dedicated to alleviating food insecurity in the community, recently announced the community is its Unsung Hero for 2020 and has established the Dick Wilson Upsizer Award, named for local philanthropic legend Dick Wilson to recognize the quiet and steady dedication of a lifetime spent doing good for others.
The first Dick Wilson Upsizer Award goes to Dick Wilson himself for “his love of community and support of countless local charities through Beauport Financial Services’ Richard D Wilson Community Response Gift Fund.
Wilson, often called the Mayor of Magnolia, believes philanthropy and civic engagement go hand-in-hand. For more than 57 years he has given back to the community and inspired others to do the same.”
