BC Tree Fruit Cooperative and Sandhu Fruit Farm have formed a strategic partnership for the packing of export cherries grown in the Okanagan, Creston and Similkameen valleys. With the Sandhu Fruit Farm installation of Unitec’s world-class Cherry Vision 3.0 sorting and packaging technology, cooperative growers who grow export quality cherries will have even more opportunity to maximize their returns through shared volume and technology that will enable greater access to markets by air and ocean.
Earlier this year BC Tree Fruit Cooperative announced the closure of the organization’s Lake Country and Kelowna packing facilities. As a result a group of growers requisitioned for a special general meeting of the cooperative to deal with a number of important matters ranging from the composition of the board of directors, facility investments and the potential sale of properties. The meeting was held Nov. 22 at the Peachland Community Centre.
