Over 7,000 patients in Guwahati, just 10% GMCH beds available | Guwahati News

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal holds a meeting with senior doctors of ICMR-RMRC in Diburgarh on Saturday GUWAHATI: With more than 7,000 active patients in Guwahati and the number rising by the day, just about 10% of the beds are available at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) the biggest government hospital in the region. Officials, though, claimed that the capacity is being increased as more patients requiring oxygen are getting admitted to GMCH. GMCH principal Dr Achyut Baishya said in six government hospitals in and around the city, over 90% beds reserved for Covid patients are full. “We are heading towards an extremely extremely dangerous situation. In March, the entire state detected 875 Covid cases, while the cases went up close to 35,000 an increase of 400% or four times of the detection of Covid cases in one month. This is worrisome, as over 1,800 beds of 2,000 are occupied as of today,” Baishya said on Saturday.
