Gladwin man jailed in robbery connection

A 29-year-old Gladwin man is being held on a $100,000 cash bond in connection with a Wednesday morning gas station robbery.
Richard Atherton was arraigned Thursday and charged with robbery and fleeing and eluding. He remains jailed on both felonies.
Gladwin County Sheriff deputies arrested Atherton shortly after he allegedly threatened a gas station employee and robbed the store. He was not armed.
Deputies report that around 5:45 a.m., they responded to a 911 call from Beacon & Bridge, 111 S. M-18, reporting a suspicious person had purchased an item and left the store. During the 911 call, the man returned and demanded all the money from the cash register and threatened the cashier’s life. No weapon was seen or implied. The man obtained between $100 and $150 and fled the store in a Dodge pickup that investigators learned was stolen out of Isabella County.
