Two men were struck and killed while walking across the same stretch of Northeast 82nd Avenue in April, a sobering reminder that the east Portland arterial remains one of the most dangerous roads in the Portland metro area.
Fatal crashes, regardless of whether those killed by drivers were walking, in a vehicle or riding a bike, are nothing new on the five-lane state highway that carves through some of the most racially diverse neighborhoods in the city and state and on into Clackamas County. But in the past two years, each marking the deadliest in Portland history since 1996, no one died on 82nd Avenue. In the decade preceding, 16 people were killed along its roughly seven miles inside Portland city limits.
Police identify Sunday fatal shooting victim
Police are investigating two shootings on Sunday, March 28, one of them fatal.
Police identified the homicide victim as Kim Lambright, 53, of Portland. An autopsy determined her death was a homicide by gunshot.
Southwest Barbur Boulevard and Southwest Capitol Highway intersect in two different places. Lambright was found near the intersection of these two roads by the Hillsdale and South Portland neighborhoods.

Kotek s plan to spend toll revenue on highways under fire March 16 2021
House Bill 3065 would send more money to highway projects throughout the metro region, but some say the plan is misguided.
Portland transportation leaders are hoping to slam the brakes on legislation they say would send incipient tollbooth dollars heading in the wrong direction.
House Bill 3065 was introduced by Speaker of the House Tina Kotek as a directive for the Oregon Department of Transportation to study creating uniform standards for speed bumps though the North Portland Democrat admitted that text was merely a placeholder at a Joint Transportation Committee meeting March 16.
Portland police said Jose Ignacio Contreras, a Salem resident, was driving north on Barbur Boulevard near Duniway Park when he went off the road and hit a tree.
