This year we’ve been focused on learning how to build our fundraising capabilities, advertising revenues, membership program and base of donor support. Learning how to build a strong board of directors and put the expertise of directors to work.
In April 2021 Isthmus became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We returned to print in August 2021, 17 months after the shutdown. We have not missed a month since and are now a small staff of 6.5.
Isthmus is a hybrid these days. Still an alt, but a print monthly rather than a newsweekly. We’re also now a nonprofit; but unlike many, we cover culture in addition to news. Making our way in this new world can be both exciting and terrifying.
Development director Mark Clear will join sales director Barbara Bolan in devising creative ways to help Isthmus grow by working with our business partners and individual donors.
Opinion | Like all nonprofits, Isthmus is required to have a nonprofit board that oversees the organization’s finances and helps with fundraising, among other things.
