Global vaccine distribution horrifying, unacceptable: UNGA president

The current state of global vaccine distribution is unacceptable and horrifying , the UN General Assembly president said today, pointing at the nationalistic attitude of developed countries and vaccine manufacturing nations. Only 0.3 percent of all vaccines is going to low-income countries. This is terrifying, horrifying. This is unacceptable. This is beyond all human and moral belief, Volkan Bozkır said while delivering his speech at the Bangabandhu Lecture Series organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Foreign Service Academy.
Bozkir arrived in Bangladesh on a two-day visit today.

The President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkır, arrives in Dhaka early this morning on a two-day visit to hold meetings with top government leadership and discuss the Rohingya crisis and shared challenges.
He is scheduled to visit Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar to see for himself the plight of the forcibly-displaced Myanmar nationals, who took temporary shelter amid persecution, ethnic cleansing and genocide in Rakhine state.
According to the programme schedule, the UNGA president will arrive in Dhaka at 5:00am and will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 10:30am.
Award Ceremony for the Contents on Korea-Bangladesh relation held

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea held an award ceremony at the Embassy for the winners of the “Contents Contest on Korea-Bangladesh Relations” on May 11.
The ceremony was held on the occasion of an important diplomatic anniversary of Korea-Bangladesh relations.
Among a number of participants in the contest, the first prize went to Tanjina Haque who presented a comprehensive survey of the Korea-Bangladesh ties for almost fifty years with many pieces of relevant photos and records.
Other winners of the contests are Istinarah Surrat Nubah, Naimul Hasan, Reyad Hossain, Md Nuralam Mollah, Abdullah Al Mamun and Norul Isam.

Former UN secretary-general Ban-ki Moon has said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a champion of human rights not only within Bangladesh but across the globe.
Bangabandhu was far ahead of his time and had far reaching vision, and he spoke for all those who were repressed, Moon, also a former South Korean diplomat, said at the Bangabandhu Lecture Series organised by the foreign ministry on Monday, joining virtually.
Recalling that the situation was severe in the war-ravaged Bangladesh, Ban-ki Moon said he still remembers how the Bangladeshi officials were frugal in utilising the resources then, and slowly the country was rebuilt.
