together and find a solution. that s important, but it s important that we understand the importance of changing the power differential. there are those that have contributed to this problem. and until we acknowledge that, all we ll get are band aid solutions that reproduce what we re seeing over the past few days. i don t want to get too critical of elected officials and people of authority in the city of baltimore. but yesterday on a lot of coverage, there were people saying that this isn t our city that this doesn t represent baltimore. well what does? if you ve got high unemployment if you ve got low economic development taking place, and you ve got people who have a lot of time on their hands, then what is the city? i mean i think that there was a little bit of denial going on yesterday, james peterson. i mean that was baltimore we were looking at and it was

how does this happen all at the same time? how has this storm hit? in a simple way, it s basically european leaders trying to stick band aid solutions on to problems. the debt problem? they try to basically cope with greece by sticking it in a box and ignoring it a bit. the markets didn t buy it. greece is bubbling. portugal and ireland. if it was just greece, or just ireland, they can cope with it. they don t have enough money to cope with it all. when do the german people say enough? when do they say to amerienough. they pull together and create a union and have the strong bail out the weak or split up and have to eject one or two
sticking band-aid solutions just don t work. the reason why greece is in this mess right now is that essentially the eurozone leaders have constantly tried to create some kind of fudge. they have avoided facing the tough decision. and the really tough decision right now in europe is, is europe going to pull together as a single unit, and as well as having a common compreheurrency some kind of tax transfers, or is it going to break apart and let the weak members go? and in the same way, washington right now is faced with a similar moment of truth, moment of decision. are they going to pull together and create some kind of medium-term plan to deal with aspiring level of debt, or are they going to keep going for short-term band-aid solutions, just trying to kick the can down the road? if there s one thing we have learned, kicking the can down the road doesn t work. and you have been doing some writing about the american middle class, as well as the middle class and some of the countries
