History of the festival: According to Islamic beliefs, the history behind the festival dates back to when Prophet Ibrahim kept having a recurring dream of slaughtering his beloved son, Ismael so as to fulfil the wishes of God. Ibrahim realised that this was the command of God and communicated the same to his son, Ismael. Ismael, who was equally a devotee of God, agreed to sacrifice himself so that his father could comply with the wishes of God.
