Iowa starter
Matt Swarmer had a no-hitter until one out in the sixth inning, when he surrendered a double. After an error and a triple, he left the game with the score tied 2-2. The final line on Swarmer was two runs, both unearned, on two hits over 5.2 innings. Swarmer struck out six and walked one.
The Mud Hens scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off of
Tony Cingrani and
Dakota Mekkes, which turned out to be the difference in the game. Two I-Cubs errors contributed to the defeat. Mekkes got the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. He did not have a walk or a strikeout.
The win went to
Juan Gámez because Chalmers didn’t pitch five innings. Gámez surrendered one unearned run on two hits over 1.2 innings. Gamez struck out three, walked one and hit pne batter.
First baseman
Jared Young had a big night tonight. First he connected for a three-run double in the first inning. In the second inning, he had a two-run double. The final line of Young’s night was 3 for 5 with two doubles and five RBI. He scored one run.

Manuel Rodriguez, who were both named to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game today. They’re doing NL versus AL instead of US versus the World this year, so the American Davis and the Mexican Rodriguez will be on the same team this time, as we hope they are for many years to come.

Mike Hausman turned in his best start in the Cubs organization, tossing six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits. He struck out five and did not walk anyone.

Trevor Williams made a rehab assignment today and it went well. Williams faced seven batters over two innings and the only one to reach was hit by a pitch. Williams struck out two. He threw 32 pitches and 22 were strikes.
Justin Steele also made a rehab appearances. He pitched the seventh inning and gave up the Storm Chasers’ only run of the game on a solo home run. But that was the only baserunner he allowed in his inning of work. Steele did not strike anyone out.
Nico Hoerner played three innings at second base in a rehab assignment. He was 1 for 2 at the plate.
