This EFF disciplinary hearing relates to two incidents where its MPs were physically removed from the Good Hope Chamber during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s question session in June and August 2022.
Parties debated the bill on Tuesday, with the opposition maintaining that the police minister still exercises too much power over the IPID, calling for greater independence.
The National Assembly on Tuesday night debated and adopted the report of the powers and privileges committee, which recommended the suspension of leaders Julius Malema, Floyd Shivambu and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and three other party MPs.
The matter is related to another physical removal of its members of Parliament, this time from the Good Hope chamber during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s questions in June and August 2022.
The six MPs will be suspended for a month next year and have their salaries docked for disrupting the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in February and threatening President Cyril Ramaphosa.
