The name Chuck Taylor is one often associated with sneakers, but many may not know that Taylor was actually a Brown County native who grew up playing basketball in the early 1900s at Columbus High School.
âThe ties to Indiana are unmistakable,â says David Matlack, a storyteller, historian, and faculty member at Indiana University. âThe Indiana state tournament wouldâve been eight years old when he went to it. At that point, it was already the most organized state tournament in the nation. Out of that, basketball as an important part of the Hoosier identity was born.â
On Sunday, May 2, Matlack will lead an event titled âChuck Taylor Converse All Star: The Man Who Made the Shoeâ as part of Storytelling Arts of Indiana and the Indiana Historical Societyâs

Blood and DNA of slain woman Azalia Wilson were found on a man s shoe in a car allegedly connected to the man accused of her murder.
At the trial of Samuel Moses Samson yesterday, ESR forensic scientist Gary Gillespie told the jury his findings following the examination of several blood spots, swabs and material collected at the motel and vehicles related to the case.
The trial before Justice Gerald Nation in the High Court at Invercargill started last week after Samson pleaded not guilty to the murder of Miss Wilson at the Bavarian Hotel in Invercargill on November 17, 2019.

A month before Azalia Wilson was killed, the man accused of her murder headbutted her while she was holding their baby, a court heard yesterday.
