By the time my column comes out next Monday, a new set of Binibining Pilipinas queens would have already been crowned. After more than a year of waiting, the 34 surviving candidates of the country’s longest running pageant will finally see the culmination of their Binibini journeys next Sunday, July 11
th at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, with outgoing queens Patricia Magtanong, Emma Mary Tiglao, Leren Mae Bautista and the three Bb. Pilipinas Grand International titlists, Samantha Ashley Lo, Aya Abesamis and Samantha Bernardo, finally relinquishing their crowns to their successors.
That said, this may actually be my last chance to do a forecast on who, I believe, have the biggest potentials of bagging the crowns. Lest I fail miserably in my assessment of the ladies, let it be said that I am doing this list at a disadvantage. I totally have no idea on how the ladies fared in their preliminary interviews. Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 10) - The Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. officially confirmed that current contestant Samantha Bernardo was appointed to represent the Philippines in the Miss Grand International pageant in Thailand in March.
The local pageant explained reigning Bb. Pilipinas Grand International Aya Abesamis was not able to compete internationally due to the age limit, after the Miss Grand International pageant was delayed because of the pandemic. We extend our full support to her [Bernardo] in her quest to win the first MGI crown for the country, BPCI said in a statement. Also, our heart goes out to Aya Abesamis for being unable to join MGI 2020 due to age limit, caused by the delay of the MGI contest because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it added.

Published February 9, 2021 6:39pm Binibining Pilipinas on Tuesday confirmed that Samantha Bernardo would represent the Philippines at the Miss Grand International 2020 pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, next month. “Binibining Pilipinas officially confirms the selection of Samantha Bernardo as the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Grand International 2020 pageant this March 27, 2021 in Bangkok, Thailand,” said the statement shared on the organization’s Facebook page. The statement said that the pageant organization would be extending its “full support in her quest to win the first MGI crown for the country.” Binibining Pilipinas also expressed regret for reigning Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2019 Aya Abesamis “for being unable to join MGI 2020 due to the age limit caused by the delay of the MGI contest because of the COVID pandemic.”
