Lobos Send 13 Athletes to the NCAA West Regionals ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Thirteen track and field athletes from The University of New Mexico will represent the school and state in the NCAA West Regional tournament, tabbed to take place Wednesday through Saturday in College Station, Texas. Events for UNM will start Thursday. The top 12 competitors from each individual event will advance from the Preliminary Rounds to the NCAA Championship, which will take place June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore. On the women’s side, ten athletes qualified in seven different events. Kicking off for the Lobos will be Steffi Jones in the women’s 1,500m run at 5:30 p.m. MT. Tianna Holmes will then compete in the women’s 400m and 200m, tabbed to take place at 6:25 p.m. MT and 7:45 p.m. MT respectively. Closing out the UNM events on Thursday will be Hannah Miller in the women’s 10k, which will start at 8:10 p.m. MT.

Dunninger and Yohannes Earn Individual Titles, Women in Second Place After Day Two CLOVIS, CALIF.  The University of New Mexico track and field team made another strong appearance in day two of the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Championships as Awet Yohannes and Camillo Dunninger both claimed individual titles. Dunninger completed the men’s decathlon today and claimed the MW title after posting a total of 7,481 points. The last time a Lobo claimed the MW Title in the decathlon was in 2011. Yohannes earned the MW Individual title in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, and it is the first time a Lobo won the MW title in this event since 2015.

Lobos Claim Mountain West Title for Thirteenth Year in a Row

LAS VEGAS, Nev. For the thirteenth-straight year, the University of New Mexico’s women’s cross country team clinched the Mountain West Title at the MW Cross Country Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. With a spread of 0:30, the Lobos finished with seven runners in the top-15, posting a total of 29 points. The women’s team, currently ranked third in the Nation in the most recent Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll, has held the Mountain West Championship title since 2008, a thirteen-year streak, the longest winning-streak in Mountain West history in any sport. “To continue our winning tradition for this many years is a testament to the drive and expectations that these women have to be great at the highest collegiate running level,” said head coach Joe Franklin.
