LAS CRUCES, New Mexico Officers found a Las Cruces man critically injured with a gunshot wound Sunday evening, according to the police department.
After 4 p.m., investigators responded to reports of a shooting on Hickory Drive, south of Avenida de Mesilla, a police spokesman said.
First-responders rushed the 35-year-old man to a local hospital, according to authorities. He was ultimately airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso.
Police were investigating the cause of the shooting. Investigators had not identified any suspects.
Suspect Omar Felix Cueva exchanged gunfire with officers from several agencies on the interstate.
Cueva was struck several times by gunfire from officers and pronounced dead on scene.
DEMING - New Mexico State Police on Friday evening released new information about its investigation into the Feb. 4 pursuit and killing by police of a suspect following the death of a state police officer in Luna County.
As previously reported, NMSP Officer Darian Jarrott of Lordsburg was shot after conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 10 around mile marker 102. The car had been described as a white Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Omar Felix Cueva, 39, of Deming.

LAS CRUCES - A suspect shot and killed a New Mexico State Police officer in Luna County before being shot and killed on Interstate 10 in Las Cruces on Thursday.
NMSP officer Darian Jarrott, assisting Homeland Security Investigations, pulled over a white Chevrolet pickup truck being driven by Omar Felix Cueva near milepost 101 on Interstate 10 east of Deming. During the traffic stop, Cueva opened fire and killed Jarrot, said State Police Chief Robert Thornton.
