The Maryland athletic department slogan is “Fear The Turtle.” In seven seasons in the Big Ten, its football team has scared no one.
That might be about to change judging by the recruiting work done by coach Mike Locksley and his staff.
Locksley signed four four-star prospects in December and completed their class with five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis of Opa Locka, Florida, ranked the No. 20 player in the country by 247Sports.
The top eight recruits play defense, an area where Locksley is looking for rapid improvement. Maryland ranked in the bottom three in the Big Ten in scoring defense, rushing defense and total defense.

EUGENE Two of the primary actors behind the assembly of Oregon’s best recruiting class in program history and its third straight atop the Pac-12 weren’t even with the program a year ago.
Cornerbacks coach Rod Chance and wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon were hired last Feb. 15 and April 17, respectively, each helped recruit three players to UO’s 23-member 2021 class ranked No. 6 nationally. Each landed a pair of players ranked in the top 10 at their position groups, which were Oregon’s biggest areas of need in this recruiting cycle.

I wanted a chance to share - in an informal manner - what I’m hearing less than 24 hours before the traditional (late) signing period.
Turns out, it’s good news for both the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers.

Four-star cornerback Avante Dickerson decommitted from Minnesota and is headed to Oregon, he announced Wednesday on Signing Day.
Dickerson had a national TV audience looking on at a live feed from Omaha Westside High School as he declared he s joining the Ducks.
Some pundits put him as a likely signee with home-state Nebraska after Dickerson decided to break his verbal commitment to Minnesota. He is the top-rated player from the state in the class of 2021.
The 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back has a four-star rating by most recruiting services. He s ranked No. 8 among cornerbacks in the 247Sports composite.
