Besides the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, or ENSO for short, there is the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and Arctic Oscillation (AO) that can influence the nation’s weather. The NAO, MJO, and AO are simply related to large-scale patterns in different parts of the world. The NAO is linked to weather features in the North Atlantic, and the AO refers to patterns near and around the North Pole.
