PABD still investigating meteor sighting » Borneo Bulletin Online

February 8, 2021 Aziz Idris The Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD), with the help of eyewitnesses, is still investigating mysterious sightings of a fireball accompanied with a loud bang, which was reported falling to Earth in broad daylight on January 31. Representing PABD was its Secretary General Hazarry bin Haji Ali Ahmad along with members Haji Md Azri bin Haji Ibrahim and Husaini bin Ali Hassan. PABD conducted further examination at several locations, based on a firsthand sighting video obtained from a group of 4×4 off-road enthusiasts known as the Jimny Sierra Brunei Community. Photographs of the meteor were also obtained from Sabah Stargazers, to assist in the investigation.

Sonic boom or meteorite behind loud explosion?

KOTA KINABALU: The mysterious explosion heard by many in Sabah’s Sipitang and Labuan and Lawas in Sarawak on Sunday could be a sonic boom or a meteorite which exploded midair. According to the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD), the society received numerous reports from the public in Brunei who had heard a mysterious loud bang in the sky. PABD then issued a notice seeking first-hand eyewitness accounts of the phenomenon, which is believed to have occurred at about 11am. Some Brunei citizens shared their experience of the loud blast and uploaded blurry pictures on the PABD Facebook page of what seemed like a fireball with a trail of smoke.
