Man pleads guilty in overdose death | News, Sports, Jobs

djohnson@mojonews.com LISBON Tyree DeShaun Robinson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of Joseph Robert Urgitus on Tuesday morning, even through Robinson pointed out during the hearing in Common Pleas Court he had never met Urgitus. Robinson, 26, of Youngstown, had been scheduled for a jury trial this week before deciding to plead guilty to the only charge he faced, a first-degree felony involuntary manslaughter. Chief Assistant County Prosecutor Ryan Weikart said both witnesses and text messages link Robinson to the death of Urgitus. During Tuesday’s plea hearing, Assistant County Prosecutor Alec Beech told Judge Megan Bickerton that Robinson sold Urgitus a mixture of both crack cocaine and heroin on March 6, 2019. At the time of the arrest, investigators believed the drugs also may have contained fentanyl.

newsroom@reviewonline.com LISBON A Youngstown man was sentenced to 18 months in prison following a hearing on drug-related charges in Common Pleas Court this week. At 25 years old, Robert Manigault, of Youngstown, had a lengthy conversation with Judge Megan Bickerton prior to sentencing about his long criminal history. “Obviously you are a young man and this has been a course of your life for a long time,” Bickerton said, adding in a letter he wrote to the court he seemed as if he wanted to make a change. But after he committed the crimes of tampering with evidence and possession of heroin in Columbiana County, Manigault had been charged with additional charges in Mahoning and Stark County. Assistant County Prosecutor Alec Beech said he has had recently had multiple charges on multiple days in multiple jurisdictions. One of those pending charges is a first-degree felony cocaine charge.

Man puts the onus on LSD for crime | News, Sports, Jobs

djohnson@mojonews.com LISBON Ross Chaplow, the Columbiana area man who physically assaulted a good samaritan and took a power saw to his pickup truck, was sentenced to 20 months in prison by Common Pleas Judge Scott Washam on Thursday. Chaplow, 39, West Park Avenue, Columbiana, said he was truly sorry and was not a violent person. He claimed it was the LSD and crystal meth that caused him to act the way he did. Instead of the 20-month sentence being requested by Assistant County Prosecutor Alec Beech, Chaplow and his defense attorney Chris Amato were asking for help through an inpatient drug addiction facility.
