BJP faces the challenge of securing the faith of Assamese people with CAA and incomplete NRC posing as barriers. Until and unless the fears of the Assamese remain, there will always be risks to the hard-achieved peace of the Northeast state
Assam Chief Minister Biswa Sarma announced that only Assamese people who have been residing in Assam for 200 to 300 years will be elected from nearly 106 assembly seats out of 126 constituencies following the delimitation and accord with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). The Election Commission of India conducted the delimitation, resulting in 96 seats secured for Assamese people.
The chief minister said that there will be rehabilitation of the ULFA cadres. Over 10000 people and security forces were killed during the ULFA movement. ULFA will be disbanded, camps will be disbanded and weapons deposited, 726 cadres will be rehabilitated. Nine families of those ULFA cadres who were missing or died in Bhutan will be rehabilitated with government jobs.”
