Music Fest producing free livestream concerts for 2021 season

Benedict Tent broadcasts begin with Saturday’s performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Staff report The Aspen Music Festival and School is producing a series of six livestream concerts this summer, as it returns to live in-person performances. The concert broadcasts, beginning Saturday, July 3, will be shown live from the Benedict Music Tent and viewable for free on the Festival’s “Virtual Stage” page at http://www.aspenmusicfestival.com . The Music Fest developed the platform last year when it hosted virtual performances after its summer season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The winter music season was also staged on the site.

Live music is returning this summer as the post-vaccine season of cultural rebirth in Aspen is starting to take shape. The three premiere live music venues and festival producers – Belly Up Aspen, the Aspen Music Festival and School and Jazz Aspen Snowmass – are all returning. Belly Up has been shuttered since March 2020 when the novel coronavirus shut down the live music and touring industries. Jazz Aspen last summer canceled its June Experience and Labor Day Experience and hosted an outdoor truncated version of its JAS Café series. The Aspen Music Festival, for the first time in its 70-plus years, canceled the 2020 summer season and scuttled plans for a winter series.

Aspen Music Festival announces in-person concert lineup, more than 150 events

Live music will return to Aspen this summer. After a quiet 2020 amid the novel coronavirus pandemic and the historic cancellation of last summer’s in-person season, the Aspen Music Festival and School on Thursday announced a 52-day, 150-event lineup for July and August. With vaccines continuing to roll out, virus cases declining and public health restrictions loosening, the Aspen institution’s slate of summer concerts will return for its 72nd anniversary season. “We’re very excited,” festival president and CEO Alan Fletcher said Wednesday. “We truly believe in this season. And we are monitoring, hour by hour, what health rules and best practices are across the world, in terms of being on stage, and we feel very confident about this.”
