Elderly care home ‘unfit for purpose’, says watchdog
A care home for the elderly psychiatric patients was rated unfit for purpose following a damning report by the Mental Health Commission (MHC).
MHC investigators also noted that the Sycamore Unit, Dublin, was not suited to provide in-patient mental health services for older people especially for people with dementia.
The lack of required physical and psychosocial care at the 25-bed unit was unacceptable, inspectors from the mental health watchdog added, and put the well-being of residents at risk.
