Mellon Foundation Unveils $125M Effort to Revitalize New York Arts Sector

A coalition of philanthropic foundations will devote $125 million over three years to New York State’s arts economy as part of Creatives Rebuild New York, an initiative connected to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to remedy the devastating financial impact of the pandemic. NEA Our Town and the Practice of Creative Placemaking

Photo by TJ Young This past Wednesday, the National Endowment for the Arts announced 63 Our Town grants totaling $4 million. This announcement and the recommended projects offer insight into the state of creative placemaking. Conceived in a year marked by profound hardship, trauma, and grief, each of the recommended Our Town projects offers hope. These arts-led, engagement-based, inclusive initiatives rise to the multiple challenges of this moment with creative approaches to heal, rebuild community, and work towards a more equitable future.  The Our Town portfolio this year is diverse in every respect. Grants will support creative placemaking projects in 28 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Northern Mariana Islands. United States Artists President and CEO Deana Haggag Steps Down to Join The Andrew W Mellon Foundation

United States Artists has announced that Deana Haggag will be stepping down as President & CEO to join The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as a Program Officer in Arts and Culture, focusing on the current and emerging infrastructure and field-wide needs of artists and arts organizations. We are enormously grateful to Deana for her leadership of United States Artists during the past four years. She has done a magnificent job working with the board and staff to build a strong organization in support of individual artists, said Ed Henry, USA Board Chair. We are in a great position to continue to expand our support and services to artists throughout the country and we are fortunate to engage Jamie Bennett to continue our work.
