Hindu prayers to open city council meeting

47abc February 8, 2021 MILFORD, Del. – Monday night for the first time, Milford City Council is opening their council session with Hindu prayers. Hindu states-man, Rajan Zed will deliver the ancient Sanskrit scriptures remotely before the city council meeting. After the Sanskrit delivery, council officials say Zed will read the English interpretation of the prayers. Mayor of Milford, Arthur Campbell says Milford has grown so much in the past few years and now seemed like a good time to introduce something different. Mayor Campbell says he’s used to working with those who speak different languages. When Zed approached him about opening the city council session with a Hindu prayer, he thought this would be a great opportunity to include someone of a different culture to Milford.

NC to offer inmates incentives to get COVID shots. Will new plan stem deadly tide?

NC to offer inmates incentives to get COVID shots. Will new plan stem deadly tide? Ames Alexander, The Charlotte Observer Jan. 29 Hoping to halt COVID-19 s lethal march through North Carolina s prisons, state officials said Friday they will offer earlier releases and other incentives to inmates who agree to get vaccinated Their plan comes as the state Department of Public Safety is providing hundreds of inmates and prison employees their first shots. DPS currently is giving the vaccine to prison healthcare workers, staff members who work near infected inmates and employees and inmates 65 and older. Since the voluntary vaccinations began inside the prisons on Jan. 20, about 1,800 of the roughly 29,000 inmates in the state prison system have been vaccinated, state Prison Commissioner Todd Ishee said. Last week, prison officials offered the vaccine to inmates 75 and older, and more than 90% of those prisoners agreed to get shots, Ishee said.

Timetable uncertain on vaccinating NC inmates

Most people with allergies should be safe taking the COVID-19 vaccine, says a University of Washington doctor. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has counted at least 29 people developing severe allergic reactions to new COVID-19 vaccines out of 5.3 million people who have been vaccinated. The 29 had suffered anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction that can be controlled through an epinephrine injection. Inmates and staff members at the state s prisons, including Forsyth Correctional Center, who are 65 and older are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines, but state correction officials don t have an immediate timetable when the shots will be administered. We are not scheduling specific prisons per se, said Dr. Arthur Les Campbell, the medical director of the N.C. Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice.

(WECT) - A few weeks ago, Tabor Correctional had hundreds of active cases of the virus, at one point having the most in the state, but that number has since dropped to just four active cases. According to DPS, 548 people have recovered from the virus in the correctional institution. Chief medical officer for the NC Division of Prisons Dr. Arthur Campbell says the past several months have been a struggle, with Tabor Correctional seeing record case numbers and even two inmate deaths in the facility, but the work continues to implement protective protocols and stop the spread of the virus.
