Making fun of D.C. traffic is nothing new, but as a veteran traffic reporter, WTOP’s Dave Dildine can do it like few others.

History and Gardiner's Bay Country Club - Shelter Island Reporter

History and Gardiner’s Bay Country Club (Credit:Reporter File Photo) This summer season we can all celebrate a wonderful achievement for Shelter Island Gardiner’s Bay Country Club is 125 years old. Although the club’s early history was a series of challenges, including fire, World Wars and the Great Depression, the club’s current position is one of strength and a future full of promise. By the late 19th century, at the home of golf in Scotland’s St. Andrews, shepherds had been swinging their crooks at pebbles for over half a millennium. However, golf in America in 1896 was still in its infancy. Following golf’s journey across the Atlantic in the early 1890’s the growth of the game in America was slow. There were few golf professionals in the United States making clubs and balls, creating courses and giving lessons.

Shrewsbury farmstead Bonnie Dell Farm for sale at $1M

SHREWSBURY – The former Bonnie Dell Farm, a six-bed, six-bath Colonial at 945 Main St., is on the market for $1 million. The farmstead was built in 1749 as the home of settler Ross Wyman, who had been born in Woburn. Wyman is known for having made a gun for his near neighbor and New England militia commander Artemas Ward, who requested a firearm that could “pitch an Englishman over his head.” Ward eventually became George Washington’s second-in-command. Wyman marched from Shrewsbury as the captain of its 16-man artillery unit that did its part at Lexington and Concord along with more than a hundred others from Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury High takes up study to decide if 'Colonials' mascot should remain

Group of students, staff, parents to discuss hot-button issue Telegram & Gazette The use of Native American imagery and symbols by Massachusetts high school athletic teams has been a contentious and continuing issue since at least the late 1990s with change occurring at a glacial pace. But dramatic and meaningful progress for those who believe such imagery is racially and culturally insensitive has been made the past six months, an offshoot of an energized social justice movement that began in the summer. Here in Central Mass., it’s led to Nashoba Regional ditching Chieftains for a yet-to-be-determined mascot in July, Grafton switching from Indians to Gators in November, and North Brookfield dropping Indians, Athol dumping Red Raiders and Algonquin forming a study group to review its Tomahawks nickname in December.
