What You Need to Know: The virtual exhibition “Mirrors: The Power of Reflection,” with Paris’s Art Trope Gallery, looks at the affinities and differences in how we see and are seen through the mirror and the untouchable images they present. The mirror holds potent symbolism in art history. In ancient Rome, a person’s soul was believed to be contained in their reflection. By the Middle Ages, the mirror was disdained for its associations with vanity, only later to be praised for its potential offering of self-knowledge.
