critical moment in the gulf of mexico, day 85 of the bp spill. right now preparing to test the containment cap it placed on its broken well pipe yesterday. that step apparently went smoothly. now bp needs to test the cap to see if it can, in fact, completely seal the well. randi kai joins me. what s the latest on the capping procedure tonight? reporter: anderson, they were supposed to start testing that cap earlier this evening but we just got late word a few moments ago, a few minutes ago, that they re going to do more analysis tonight and tomorrow. so, the testing on that cap, turns out, has not impun. earlier today bp told me the plan is to close two valves quickly and a third more slowly to gradually shut in the oil. once that test starts, bp says it s much safer that way. they ll be testing the pressure
norway pledged $107 million and so far they ve given $31.2 million. so, about a third of it, around anderson, it s a mixed bag. billions in pledges from countries, so far little has actually gotten to haiti. that s right. only a fraction of the pledges for reconstruction in haiti has been paid. we to want say again, u.s. and other countries have pumped a lot of money into haiti outside of the reconstruction commitment. there is, though, anderson, a question about nonprofit relief. we ll give you a real taste very quickly about what the nonprofits are doing. red cross donations, $468 million, given $148 million. doctors without borders, $66 million, $65 million. they ve almost given all of what they got, doctors without borders, a little different from the red cross, because they have different missions. red cross does long term, doctors without borders is much more immediate, anderson.
