High School Sports: All Star: Chester honored after stellar career at BHS (5/4/21)

Charles Chappell / CCImages.PhotoShelter.com Berryville’s Landon Chester has been selected as a member of the 2021 Arkansas High School Coaches Association All Star basketball team. Chester was named a member of the West team’s All-Star roster. Although the All-Star game itself was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, making the roster is still an impressive achievement. “That’s outstanding,” Berryville coach Brent Compton said. “I’ve had a few of my guys make it over the years. I don’t know the exact count, but it’s a pretty short list. It’s very prestigious to make the All-Star game.”

2 local coaches win outstanding coach awards

The Arkansas High School Coaches Association recently announced its lates round of outstanding coach awards for the current school year, and two local coaches made the list. Mountain Home’s David Martin was recognized after leading the Lady Bombers’ wrestling program to their first state championship in program history. In addition, Eric Teague received the award for girls’ basketball after the Lady Bearkatz won their third consecutive state title. The awards were voted on by the association’s membership. WebReady

Wood to be inducted in AOA Hall of Fame

This is the second time Wood will be recognized by an organization under the umbrella of the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA). In 2010, he was inducted into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Wood says it was a thrill, as a coach and an official, to be able to put his time in and help student athletes throughout the state. Listen:

5 area seniors among 1st round of All-Stars

The Arkansas High School Coaches Association has announced its first round of All-Stars, and five area seniors were recognized. Two of Mountain Home’s dance team members were honored. Lauren Dewey and Gaby Gross were selected for the West roster. A local cheerleader was also recognized. Jasmine Aguilar is representing Salem on the East squad. The area also has two football players from Harrison selected as All-Stars. Lane Johnson and Cole Keylon are on the West team. The All-Star games, normally held in June on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, will be canceled for the second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
