The City of Perth Amboy Police Department and the entire Perth Amboy community is morning the loss of one of our beloved Senior Police Officers, Arcadio Rivera Jr.
Officials said Officer Rivera is a 26 year veteran of the police force serving in the patrol division. Officer Rivera at approximately 7:30PM, on April 28, 2021, while off duty and at the time operating his personal vehicle, appeared to experience a medical emergency which caused him to lose control of his vehicle and collide with parked vehicles in the Harbortown section of the City.
The medical emergency has yet to be confirmed by appropriate authorities.

UPDATED: Authorities have released the name of the off-duty police officer killed in a crash in Perth Amboy on Wednesday night.
Senior Police Officer Arcadio Rivera Jr., 54, was operating his personal vehicle off-duty and apparently had a medical emergency that caused him to crash into parked vehicles, according to initial reports.

He was a former U.S. Marine and 26-year veteran of the police force.
Rivera is survived by three children, Arcadio III, Luis Armando and Angel Isaiah Rivera.
Rivera was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center after suffering a heart attack and was pronounced at the hospital, authorities said.

PERTH AMBOY – Arcadio Rivera Jr., a 26-year veteran of the Perth Amboy Police Department, is being remembered as a positive influence in the city, not just with his fellow officers and new recruits, but also with the young people who played on basketball teams with his sons. Arcadio was someone who really appreciated other people, and he was definitely a positive influence on other individuals, said Kenneth Ortiz, the city’s recreation director.
Rivera died Wednesday night following an apparent medical emergency that caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into parked vehicles. He was 54.
