fects. see for yourself at botoxcosmetic.com rich: deadly violence marring the july 4th weekend. a man in philadelphia fired on a crowd. i m rich edson in washington. julie: welcome to hour three. there is no immediate connection known between the suspect and the victims in philadelphia. the gunman opened fire over several city blocks leaving behind dozens of spent shell casings from an ar-type rifle. that is not all he was armed with. officers were able to apprehend the male in the rear alley of 1600 phraser street and when they did, this male was wearing a bullet proof vest with
multiple magazines in the vest and had a scanner and an ar-style rifle and handgun underneath his body. julie: mike tobin joins us live following the latest. so far the best description is a male in his 40s. no indication for what motivated this mass killing. plenty of indication the killer spent time preparing for it. police say the man was wearing a bullet proof vest, ar-style rifle. multiple magazines, sidearm and police scanner to listen to police traffic. bullet casings stretched over an eight block area. four people killed in the street. five fatality when police were called into the house where one of the victims fled. went inside and found the son laying on the living room floor unresponsive. immediately went outside where he saw the police officer, notified that officer. the officer notified medics.
patrol cars but some have to jump out with just a handgun. some on foot patrol. some on a motorcycle. they have to engage these guys as they can and take them down. so yes. you know, there will be a lot of talk post shooting as there always is about gun laws and maybe the congress will step up with something reasonable. they have in the past. that s the history of gun control. whenever there was assassinations by gangsters in the 30s, the congress did step us and give us something. maybe they can do something but still protect america s second amendment rights. one year ago when you were on our air, you were talking about one shooting. for many, many hours and today, on the same weekend, we are talking about at least three or four that are in the headlines if that s any point of context. hey, jim, thank you so much as always for giving us that context. rehema ellis, nobody better in the business.
horrible thing is in a jail cell. he s going to stay there. you cannot get to him to hurt him so please do not hurt anyone else. thank you. i think we have time for a couple of questions. and for the d.a. as well. you mentioned this man was wearing a bulletproof vest, had the handgun, the ar style rifle. is there any reason to believe this was a premeditated attack? again, there s only so much we can divulge at this time, but i think it is safe to say that with the evidence that we have available to us that these acts were done knowingly and intentionally. commissioner, how are you trying to determine the motive? well that s for the investigator to find out. it s not just going back and speaking to witnesses but it s also once we get the ability to speak to the suspect as well and then also identifying any communications that have been made by the person in custody prior as well. really quickly. you mentioned a secondary
me, but i couldn t get any lower. do you know what i mean? i just heard it, and i felt it. at least 30 rounds went through my car, alone. the county sheriff s office says deputies were on site to monitor the event. it s just a juneteenth party, i m not exactly sure who threw it. but around 12:25 am, they got called to respond to a nearby fight. and immediately returned when they heard gunfire. next thing you know, shots just kept going off. and everybody ran. it was chaos. investigators say multiple suspects fired multiple rounds into the parking lot crowd. [inaudible] we drop down, we dropped and they kept going. in st. louis, a 17-year-old man was killed and at least nine others hurt. it happened at a party held in an office building. it s every parents warts nightmare, tenfold. officers say multiple weapons were found at the scene, including an ar-style rifle.
