Letter: The Ohio River Valley does not want to be cancer alley

The Repository The Utica Midstream Conference 2021 will be held May 20 in Canton. It is likely to be a pep rally for the petrochemical industry. Plastics and petrochemicals have become the new “darlings” of the fossil fuel industry. Their plans to make the Ohio River Valley the next petrochemical hub of the USA are evidence of their total disregard of the health and safety of people who live in the region.  Citizens falsely believe the chemical compounds that they are regularly exposed to are safe. However, epidemiologist Dr. Shanna Swan says fewer than 250 of the over 60,000 chemicals used commercially and found in our food, personal care products, and packaging have been adequately tested for safety, including endocrine disruption.

America's Big Bet on Selling Fracked Gas to China and the World

DeSmog Jul 19, 2019 @ 11:08 Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is getting a lot of attention these days, with U.S. producers making major investments in the infrastructure to produce and export LNG to China and the rest of the world for the next several decades. That’s despite LNG looking like a big bet that may not ever pay off.  A common question about the super-chilled, easier-to-ship form of natural gas is whether LNG will become “the next coal.” This is a reference to the U.S. coal market’s failure, in part due to climate concerns, but mainly because it can’t compete economically with other sources of electricity, including renewables.

Mountaineer NGL Storage LLC exploring green hydrogen demand | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer CLARINGTON Mountaineer NGL Storage LLC is exploring green options for its Appalachian Storage Hub in Monroe County. The natural gas storage facility is gauging interest in the possibility of storing carbon-free hydrogen in its new storage hub near Clarington in Monroe County. The company announced its interest in green hydrogen storage earlier this month and is looking to see if there is a market for it in the local region. The initiative comes after Long Ridge Energy Terminal announced its plans to convert its Hannibal power plant to a green hydrogen fuel source. David Hooker, CEO and president of Mountaineer, said the exploration is in support of the power generation market move toward green energy solutions, including that of Long Ridge Energy Terminal, being developed at the former Ormet Corp. aluminum production site. Hooker said Long Ridge Energy Terminal had reached out to the storage company to inquire if it would be willing and able to store hydrogen; Moun
