Adam Plainer joins as co-head of US firm s global financial restructuring group
Peter James Sampson; Shutterstock Dechert has hired restructuring lawyer Adam Plainer from Weil Gotshal & Manges to co-chair its global financial restructuring group. Plainer is set to join the firm’s London office, initially as a consultant pending regulatory clearance for partnership. He arrives from Weil, where he was head of restructuring and insolvency, bringing with him experience advising both debtors and creditors on complex cross-border workouts, restructurings, insolvencies and distressed M&A. The move sees Plainer join a challenger practice in London from a top tier one, according to the Legal 500 directory: Weil Gotshal is ranked in band two while Dechert is in band seven.

BonelliErede launches competition litigation task force to combat unfair commercial practices

The task force will combine the firm’s civil litigation and competition law departments to support clients seeking support with antitrust issues and unfair commercial practices, helping them bring damages actions, actions to obtain interim measures and actions concerning the validity of contracts.

The European Commission headquarters in Brussels Shutterstock Wall Street firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has unveiled plans to open an office in Brussels later this year as it adjusts to the impact of Brexit on its ability to advise clients on EU law. The new office is expected to open in the summer, and follows the arrival in December of dual-qualified UK and Italian competition lawyer Antonio Bavasso from Allen & Overy, where he was co-head of its global antitrust and telecoms, media and technology practices.
