in the majority opinion that overturned roe v. wade justice samuel alito repeated a claim often invoked by antiabortion activists. the claim is that under roe the u.s. is a global outlier. more permissive than most other countries in its abortion law. is that true and does that assertion tell us the whole story of abortion rights in america and around the world? my next guest is a reporter of the new york times who covers health. first, let s get the facts on the table. it is true as far as i know that the u.s. is a rare country where abortion is a constitutional right. i think in no european country is it given that level of protection. it is also true that the united states allows abortions up to about 24 weeks, which is pretty a longer time period than most countries. fair, not fair. give us a sense of the outline. well, i think that would have been fair as of a couple days ago but because of the new supreme court decision we no longer have a constitutional right to abortion i

on abortion in his state, even in cases of rape and incest, as cnn s ellie reave reports for us, antiabortion activists in neighboring missouri want to stop people from crossing state lines to get an abortion. we re going to do everything we can to protect every child in the state, so bans abortions when there s heartbeats and brain waves, at eight weeks. if that gets overturned, there s an 18 week. missouri republican state rephas been called the new face of the antiabortion movement. she s a longtime activist. she has six kids. she s running for state senate. and she s pushed for a lot of legislation to limit abortion. there are number of provisions in the initial bill that i filed making sure that planned parenthood is not able to be a medicaid provider. also some enforcement provisions to make sure people who are aiding or abetting avoiding the laws of missouri are able to have some kind of a legal recourse against stopping that. some of her efforts have failed. even with r
