‘I wanted to get to the soul’: Dick Fontaine on his approach to documentary filmmaking

Leading British documentary film director Dick Fontaine celebrates his 82nd birthday in Durban next month, where he has lived for about a year.
Fontaine introduced “the techniques of direct cinema to British television”, according to the Dick Fontaine and Pat Hartley Collection at the Harvard Film Archive. Starting as cinéma verité “truth cinema” in France in the late 1950s, direct cinema revitalised documentary filmmaking in the United Kingdom.
According to Cascade County Attorney Josh Racki, many district judges have canceled trials due to COVID-19. When we re not having trials, things are getting backed up, Racki said.
One case that has seen changes is the Tony Renova homicide, as trial dates have been pushed back to the summer of 2021.Â
A year ago, 3 suspects were charged with deliberate homicide after 5-year-old Antonia Tony Renova was found beaten to death in a residence in Great Falls.Â
Tony s parents, Stephanie Byington, Emilio Renova Sr. and acquaintance Racso Birdtail are accused in the crime and allegedly attempted to cover it up. The Renova case had a lot of public outcry, especially locally here. If I remember correctly there were some vigils and various other things. It s a very tragic case. So, as a result of that, the attorneys in those cases argued that they couldn t get a fair trial here or at least a jury that didn t know about the case given the media attention. We didn t, we being
Like pretty much everyone working in the arts industry, local band Staring Down Comets have had to miss out on a lot of potential events this year due to Covid-19 and the restrictions that come with the pandemic.
The restrictions may have halted their plans somewhat, but they haven t given up on their plan to release some music before the year is out.
This Friday, December 11th, their single Hanging On By A Thread will be released on all streaming platforms and will be available for download, with the pre-sale taking place yesterday (Monday).
It is the band s very first single and was mixed by Leo Logan of Vibes Studios in Drumshanbo.
