Wyomingites Given Tips on How to Help Prevent Wildfires

CHEYENNE  As Memorial Day weekend approaches the Bureau of Land Management and Wyoming State Forestry Division would like to remind everyone to celebrate Wyoming public lands and take precautions to prevent wildfires.   “Our firefighters are preparing for fire season, and they need your help to prevent human-caused wildfires” said Paul Hohn BLM Wyoming State Fire Management Officer, “About 87 percent of all wildfires across the nation each year are human caused, which means they are preventable. So as the weather warms up, we all need to do our part to protect our communities and natural resources. Wyoming's 2021 Summer Fire Risk Is High

While it is good to see lots of snow and rain in south eastern Wyoming, right up into the middle of May, the central and most of all the north eastern sections of the state have not been doing well. They need a lot more wet than they have been getting. Last year s fire season was bad enough. This year is not looking so good for some parts of the state. “Around 2017 or 2018, we were looking to have a pretty active fire season, but we ended up getting a lot of rain into June and July, so the fire season was muted,” Wyoming state forestry manager Anthony Schultz told Cowboy State Daily. “It wasn’t something heavily predicted, so we weren’t really expecting it.”

Recent precipitation brings relief to SE Wyoming ranchers, but long-term forecast remains dry, hot Wyoming Tribune-Eagle (Cheyenne, WY) May 3 CHEYENNE Recent record levels of rain and snow in southeast Wyoming have been welcomed by local ranchers, although moving into the summer months, the long-term weather outlook in the state remains hotter and drier than usual. After recent rainfall in the region, which followed a historic snowstorm in mid-March, drought conditions have improved substantially. While all of Laramie County was listed as being in moderate or severe drought in late February by the U.S. Drought Monitor, the latest update last week showed nearly all of

Wyoming Fire Management Officer On 2021 Wildfire Risk: "It's Not Looking Good" – Sheridan Media

By Ellen Fike, Cowboy State Daily Wyoming’s wildfire outlook for the 2021 season is not a good one, according to the Wyoming State Forestry Division’s fire management officer. However, Anthony Schultz did offer the caveat that while the outlook may seem bad now, there is a possibility nature could change its course and provide a rainy summer. “Around 2017 or 2018, we were looking to have a pretty active fire season, but we ended up getting a lot of rain into June and July, so the fire season was muted,” Schultz told Cowboy State Daily on Thursday. “It wasn’t something heavily predicted, so we weren’t really expecting it.”
