Defendants Include Alleged Leader of Latin Kings Street Gang and Eight Inmates Currently Incarcerated in State Prisons
TRENTON – Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal today announced that an alleged local leader of the Latin Kings street gang and eight inmates allegedly under his command in various correctional facilities including Northern State Prison in Newark and New Jersey State Prison in Trenton have been charged with forming a “hit squad” within the prison system to commit assaults on behalf of the gang. A Manchester man, who was a former employee for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, has been indicted on charges of falsifying his academic credentials to get his engineering job and earn promotions from the agency, authorities said.
Roger Sequeira, 64, of the Whiting section, was indicted Friday on charges including second-degree official misconduct, second-degree theft by deception, third-degree theft by deception, and third-degree tampering with public records, according to a news release from the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General.
From Nov. 24, 2007, to June 16, 2020, Sequeira allegedly submitted a fraudulent document that purported to be a transcript from La Salle University, which showed he had received a bachelor of science degree in engineering, according to the indictment.
