Two computer scares and a meltdown at airports across the country. Thousands of flights cancelled or delayed, stranding passengers from california all the way east to boston. United airlines now apologizing, blaming computers. Later today worries on wall street, the New York Stock Exchange paralyzed for hours, blaming a computer glitch. For a time real concern, could they possibly be connected . Tonight we know they were not but those computer malfunctions sent many scrambling. Caused the accident . Reporter im told that maryland state trooper was making a routine traffic stop on i95 when he and the vehicle that he stopped in the shoulder were hit by a car. We do have a chopper video of sky 9 of this afternoons crash scene which caused quite a big back up on i95 near 32 in Howard County. Maryland state police say the trooper was walking to the vehicle that he pulled over in the southbound shoulder of 95 when another vehicle left its lane hitting the Police Cruiser and then the trooper and then the other car that he pulled over. Theres no word yet on what caused that driver to leave her lane or how fast she was going. It is i95. You know that vehicle s travel fast. Afternoon traffic tends to cause congestion, slow traffic down a bit. Thats something were working on figuring out. The trooper who im told has been with Maryland State Police for about a year and a half was rushed to baltimore shock trauma. Hes in stable condition. The other two drivers who were al

The computers died. The New York Stock Exchange went dark for the longest period since 9 11. And united air lanes was forced to ground its fleet when its computers failed. But Homeland Security says theres no evidence of anything criminal. Trading on the big board resumed late in the day and the dow ended with a loss of 2 of 1 points. Anthony mason begins our coverage. Reporter the first glitches in the system began to appear soon after the opening bell when orders for some smaller stocks failed to go through says trader peter tuckman. In the midst of trying to fix those problems they laid out some kind of a new program to prevent this from happening and that may have caused the further technical glitch. Reporter a little after 11 30 the nyse sut down the entire exchange to sort out the problem and cancelled some 700,000 orders in the system.
