Two women executives will join UConn Health’s top leadership team when CEO Dr. Andrew (“Andy”) Agwunobi takes over as University of Connecticut interim president later this year, Agwunobi announced Monday.
“This transition and this new arrangement will work for UConn Health,” Agwunobi said.
The UConn board announced last week that it had appointed Agwunobi interim president of the state’s flagship university after the abrupt resignation of Thomas Katsouleas.
Hicks heard about the opportunity to work at the FEMA vaccine clinic and wanted to pick up on some skills at the clinic. I said yeah, I m willing to help , said Hicks. There is a huge demand for people to help with this entire movement for vaccinations.
UConn students studying public health, dental, pharmacy and nursing are helping with the state s FEMA mobile vaccine clinic. Students get to administer shots and interact with patients. I personally just like found it super rewarding, said Omar Allam, a medical student at UConn. The experiences I have here with patient population and working with people from all diverse backgrounds is great and I get feedback on how I m doing.
Medical and town leaders tell NBC Connecticut they wanted to make the process easy and simple and to ensure people know they can return for their second shot at the same location where they picked up their first. We need to make sure that we re reaching populations in these specific areas to get back in here, said Anne Horbatuck, Vice President for Ambulatory Services for UConn Health.
Horbatuck mentions that preparation for patients second shot begins as soon as they show up for their first dose and then continues once they leave. When they come through the registration tent, their second appointment is actually made at that time which encourages them to be part of the process to ensure they pick a date, said Horbatuck. Social media is very, very big in multiple different languages as well.
