And the impact of health and education across groups in the us from the business economics meeting in washington dc yesterday. This is just under an hour. Thanks. [applause] thank you stuart. Good afternoon everyone. Dave is very privileged to introduce today and nobel laureate. Sir angus deaton was cited for the 2015 nobel prize in economics for his work about consumption, poverty and welfare. Personally, i first had the pleasure of his work on consumer theory when i was a grad student back in 1980. He followed that with extensive work on measurement , notably of price indexes between business economists greatly appreciate but professor deatons decades long work on welfare, wellbeing, and help have been major contributions to the economic literature. In this decade, as the rest of us finally became a two to the problem of income inequality here and around the world, these contributions haveguided important Public Policy prescriptions and debates. I think of myself as someone who is gotten on with what i am working on. Delighted that so many people are interested in this. Ive been thinking about inequality since i was a graduate student in the 1960s. One of the things i appreciate about the current environment is hasextent to which it become a serious manner of debate across the political spectrum. Lets we start with a few facts and

Im very, very pleased to introduce our panel on discalling [inaudible] you know, sometimes when youre organizing a nabe conference and panel, its like bringing friends together. And this is one case like that. We have real friends of nawe on the dais today. Hes been in front of us many times, we always find his views and positions extremely enlightening. Its wonderful to have doug is us.
