ANGOLA â Angola Common Council discussed changes in fees for curbside municipal waste service rates on Monday.
The city has a new agreement with Republic Services of Indiana that will see an increase in cost for waste pickup for municipal residences and facilities over the next five years.
âThere is an automatic cost increase built in and itâs based on the water sewer trash cost index that the census bureau compiles,â said Clerk-Treasurer Deb Twitchell. âAnd itâs an average of the previous five years, which is 3.4% every year.â
This is different from previous agreements that involved yearly cost increases based on a municipal cost index.
ANGOLA â Two growing Angola companies received tax abatement approvals during Mondayâs meeting of the Angola Common Council.
The tax abatements approved for Vestil Manufacturing and Feddema Industries will result in 22 new jobs between the two, 20 at Vestil and 2 at Feddema.
Vestil Manufacturing, one of Angolaâs oldest manufacturing facilities, plans to add nearly $1.8 million in new manufacturing equipment, research and development equipment and logistics distribution equipment that will add 20 jobs at an average salary of about $39,000. The expansion will also retain 433 employees.
Vestilâs project began in March and expected to be completed by August.
The tax abatements were for five years on personal property â the equipment â and 10 years on the real estate improvements.

ANGOLA â After the Angola Common Council tabled a motion to find Angola Wire Products Inc. in substantial compliance to the terms of a 2020 tax abatement during its April 5 meeting, the company provided the city with the information it needed to render its approval Monday.
Angolaâs Common Council was scheduled to review Angola Wire Productsâ annual Statement of Compliance earlier this month when Councilwoman Kathy Armstrong noticed a discrepancy in the amount the company reported spending on salaries for four of the five positions it said it would create thanks to the tax break approved last October.
According to the âEmployees and Salariesâ section of the form, the company spent $16,842 on wages for the four employees in 2020, more than $130,000 less than what they estimated they would spend on payroll.
