30% of eligible Greene County residents have gotten COVID-19 vaccines

The community is inching closer to the goal of having half of the eligible Greene County residents vaccinated against COVID-19 by Memorial Day, but health department officials are hopeful that will happen. If we keep up the current pace, we definitely can meet that goal of reaching 50 percent full vaccination by Memorial Day, said Cara Erwin with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department. But we are saying very strongly: We need to keep up that pace. We talk about finishing strong and how this is a marathon, not a race. Greene County entered the yellow phase of its Road to Recovery plan on April 16, which meant the 50 percent occupancy restrictions on some local businesses were removed. 

SGF council members Fisk, Ferguson say farewell, new members sworn in

Springfield s council meeting Monday night was full of heartfelt goodbyes and excited hellos as new council members took their seats on the city s governing body. During the meeting, outgoing General Seat A Councilwoman Jan Fisk and Zone 1 Councilwoman Phyllis Ferguson passed the torch to Heather Hardinger and Angela Romine, who officially began their four-year terms with a council lunch meeting Tuesday. Fisk and Ferguson also gave speeches thanking the volunteer council, city staff and all the residents of Springfield. Fisk highlighted several projects she was proud to support during her nine years as a councilwoman, including the development of Rountree s pocket neighborhood, the revitalization of downtown institutions like the Heer s Building and History Museum on Park Central Square, the blighting and subsequent development of Bear Village and all the new grocery stores and markets that have come to town.

Two New City Council Members To Be Sworn In Tonight

Newly elected Angela Romine, will replace Ferguson in Zone 1, and Heather Hardinger, will replace Fisk as the General Seat A representative. Romine and Hardinger will join reelected Mayor Ken McClure, Zone 4 Councilman Matthew Simpson and General Seat B Councilman Craig Hosmer in the swearing-in ceremony and will be seated on the council to hear the first-reading bills on the agenda. Angela Romine Heather Hardinger Hardinger is the first woman of color to serve on City Council. She most recently served as chair of the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights & Community Relations.
