this morning the democratic race in south carolina is looking very interesting with the surprising new poll showing some seismic shifts. joe biden is tistill in the lea but he s fallen nine points to 37%. senator senator bernie sanders has taken a hit dropping to fourth and now tied with senator kamala harris. andy shane is the columbia bureau chief of the post and courier which conducted the poll and cornell belcher is a former obama pollster and msnbc political analyst. andy, i thought there were so many real interesting things in q4 poll. joe biden still the front runner and almost under any circumstances a 20-point lead would have you feeling pretty good. but could you also look at this as sort of the glow of his announcement fading? what s your take on how this poll treats joe biden?
candidates. south carolina one of the first three states to vote during the presidential primary season, but unlike iowa, unlike new hampshire, south carolina largely seen as the first real test for candidates with black voters. andy shane joins me now, columbia bureau chief for the post and courier it is the paper of record there in charleston. owe heard joe biden say democrats should wait for the mueller report before they pursue articles of impeachment. how do voters in south carolina feel about that? do they share the same sentiment? you know, trump is a tricky topic here, as he is in the rest of the country, but that said, trump enjoys a great deal of support here in south carolina. it was one of the states he did best in during the primaries and during the general election. you know, for democrats here, you know, they have been sort of at a deficit for a time, and so they re trying to work their way back into being the majority party, and obviously winning
running for president. he has vacationed here. he has often visited here, so he s a known entity, a known person in the state, but at the same time, so was hillary clinton when barack obama, you know, came in 2008, so there is a chance for, i think, sort of a breakout democrat to make an impression here. andy shane, post and courier . thank you. for more on this let s bring in nemsnb msnbc analyst alina m and former republican congressman in florida, david jolly who parted ways with the gop. he s now an independent. zerlina let me start with you. what do we make from these comments from joe biden that dems should stay away from impeachment talk? i think what he s concerned about is the fact that there are a number of other realistic investigations the democrats can take part in if they take back
ambassador last year. this was her first trip overseas to jordan. she was traveling there, i believe it was last spring, but the ambassador and i were there for a few days, and a few of her staffers as well from the united nations. andy, in sperms in terms of you ve covered her for some time now, based on what you know on ambassador haley and her political ambition, what do you think is probably next for her? what s next for nikki haley if you were a betting man? immediately next i would say something to make money, you know, consulting job, something to earn income. she has been in public life for the better part of a decade for now between the state house, the governor s mansion and now the united nations. she obviously at some point, you know, you want to make some money. i wouldn t be surprised if
that s what she does, and then of course she has been talked about as a presidential prospect. at the moment, in the west wing that she s going to support donald trump in 2020. she s not interested in primarying him. i think we re going to hear a lot of talk about nikki haley in 2024. andy, congressman sanford there with his trademark honesty is suggesting that something doesn t smell right here, ambassador haley stepping aside four weeks before the midterms, oftentimes even with departures like this, they happen right after the midterms. do you share that skepticism? does this not pass the smell test for andy shain? do i think there s another shoe to drop with the way the trump administration has been, you never know. that said, you know, she has put in her she has put in two years, sometimes u.n. ambassadors just last two years.
