hi, everybody. it s thursday. it s 4:00 in new york. it is also day 18 of the people of the state of new york vermont donald trump, the ex-president s former attorney michael cohen is just off the witness stand. the jury is done with their service for the day. prosecutors and attorneys for the ex-president are dealing with the all important question of what happens next. it s happening right now. a hearing over what the defense s case will look like and if they will make a case, if they have a case to present the updates from that hearing that is happening as we meet we ll bring them to you right away. all this is in the wake of a rather desperate and uneven attempt to undercut michael cohen s credibility. it was to be generous, hit and miss, defense attorney todd blanche had a second chance at cross examining michael cohen after a day of rest yesterday. he moved around from topic to topic so quickly that todd blanche decided that todd should apologize to the jurors who would
congress for not complying with a subpoena from the january six committee. he said this outside the courthouse today. people like me, senior white house advisers, alter egos of the president, cannot be compelled, cannot be compelled before to testify before congress. i said from the beginning, this is going to the supreme court. i said from the beginning, i am willing to go to prison to settle this issue. i am willing to do that. the verdict came out after about four hours of deliberation. and a trial that lasted only two days. navarro is said to be sentenced in january. he faces potentially after two years in prison. he said he was ready, while it may happen. with that, let s get smarter with the help of our lead off panel tonight. jon allen is here, senior national politics reporter for nbc news. peter baker, chief white house correspondent for the new york times. and former u.s. attorney joyce vance, she spent 25 years as a federal prosecutor. joyce, i will start with
live at msnbc headquarters here at 30 rock. today, president trump has signaled what could be his next move in the georgia election case. this afternoon, he told the judge that he may seek removal of his prosecution to federal court. remember trump s former chief of staff and co defendant mark meadows is already trying to do that. he s still waiting for ruling on that request. as meadows tried to work out their legal strategies, district attorney fani willis is fighting to protect her investigation from house republicans. today, she responded to the judiciary committee chairman jim jordan, who began investigating her office after trump was indicted. in a scathing nine-page letter, willis told jordan he was, quote, trying to obstruct a criminal proceeding and advance outrageous partisan misrepresentations. he also said that being a political candidate did not make trump immune from prosecution. similar to what kamala harris said yesterday. meanwhile, nbc reports that the grand
