Orthopedic surgeon dr. Matthew levine joins us now live from inova hospital. Thanks for joining us. We know he did not fracture it, but with a dislocated ankle you dont want to reinjure yourself. How much time should he be out to make sure its completely healed . Initially hell be in a cast to allow the ligaments to start to heal. He wouldnt put weight on the ankle to allow the cartilage injury or any impact to start to heal. He could potentially be back within two to three months if things go really well, but its a wait and see game on how ligaments heal. This was a noncontact injury. When you see that video, you can tell landed so awkwardly. Is this something he could prevented perhaps with better Strength Training . I dont think theres any particular way he could have prevented that injury. Some injuries just happen based on the forces applied at any given moment. Hes a highly trained athlete in great condition.
