xG data is designed to give an idea of how many goals a team or a player is likely to score, based on a number of factors including the quality of chance that was created. You are much more likely to score from a penalty, for example, than with a long-range shot.
Words like clinical, lethal, and ruthless get thrown about fairly easily in football, but the data behind Lewandowski’s goalscoring exploits suggest such descriptions are entirely fitting.

USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has revealed he is keeping a close eye on Matthew Hoppe, with a view to one day blooding the teenaged Schalke striker at international level.
