An explosion at a home in Amherst, New Hampshire, Friday sent a contractor to the hospital with burn injuries, according to the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal s Office. The home at 13 Clark Ave. was under construction. When firefighters responded just before 9:30 a.m., they found smoke and fire coming from the house, according to the State Fire Marshal s Office. The fire went to a third alarm before being declared under control.   There were contractors at the house doing work at the time of the explosion. One of the contractors sustained burned injuries to his arms and is being treated at a Boston area hospital where he is listed as stable condition, according to the State Fire Marshal s Office.

(AP) An explosion happened at an Amherst house that was under construction, causing a contractor to suffer burn injuries to his arms, New Hampshire fire investigators said Friday. Firefighters responded to the house near Baboosic Lake shortly before 9:30 a.m. and found smoke and fire coming from the building, New Hampshire Assistant State Fire Marshal Maxim Schultz and Amherst Fire Chief Matthew Conley said in a news release. There were contractors working at the house at the time of the explosion, the investigators said. The injured contractor was being treated at a Boston area hospital, where he is listed as being in stable condition.

Fire displaces 9 people from their Amherst home

Updated: 3:50 PM EST March 2, 2021 AMHERST, N.Y. Amherst Fire officials are looking into the cause of a house fire Tuesday afternoon.  Firefighers were called to 122 Berehaven Drive for a report of a bedroom fire just after 1pm.  When they arrived, they found the second floor of the right side of the duplex on fire. Several fire companies in Amherst and Town of Tonawanda assisted in putting out the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Damage is estimated at $70,000. The Red Cross was called in to assist three adults, six children and two dogs.

From September through December, the University of Massachusetts only had about 1,100 students living in campus dormitories, compared to the more than 14,000 in pre-pandemic times, while the campuses of Amherst College and Hampshire College have been in almost bubble-like environments.
