joining me now is e.j. dionne, columnist for the washington post. and msnbc contributor. and professor melissa harris perry, also an msnbc contributor and columnist for the nation. thank you both for being here tonight. thanks. good to be in your quiet room, reverend. well, we re going to make a little noise in the quiet room tonight because i couldn t get over that comment last night dividing america like america s not divided. we re trying to end the division. let me start with you. how can republicans succeed when they don t want to talk about the defining issue of our time and that is the economic disparity in this country? well, i think it s a really interesting tactic that they are pursuing. it s okay to divide us between the real america and the rest of the country which presumably lives in some other place. it s okay to divide us between pro-european socialists or
they re referring to the straits of hormuz. this is a big threat from iran, the closure of it and the u.s. is bearing down on that as well as the accusations we killed their scientist. you ll those words. there are new efforts to take away parole power from the governor in one state. and this is reaction to that fiasco that happened in mississippi where the outgoing governor decided to give full pardons so there are four convicted murders on the loose right now, the attorney general is saying there will be a nationwide manhunt for those guys that took off running. i still don t understand that how can you work for a guy that is technically innocent? weird. we ll get to the bottom of it. also, here s one for the funny books. stephen force. or is it. i love this man. but would he be a good president? could he be a good president? could he even be president? he made a big late night announcement. it ain t the first time stephen colbert has suggested throwing his hat
you chose to serve. you put on the uniform of a country that was not yet fully your own. the new americans came from several african nations, russia, ukraine, asia and south and central america. this country s latino voters obama may have had in mind when he reminded the audience of the administration recent decision of stop deporting young people who came here illegally as children. lifting the shadow of deportation. deserving young people brought to the country as children. that s why we still need a dream act. dream act would codify what is now a controversial order by secretary napolitano and further provide young people brought here illegally with a path to citizenship. the citizenship issues divides obama with mitt romney who celebrated the fourth with his wife and family in new hampshire. we don t want to make america more like europe or any other place. we want to make america like america. this is an opportunity nation, a place for people to come for hundreds of years
