President Cyril Ramaphosa’s legal team is studying a damning Pretoria high court judgment which found his crowning and recognition of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as king of the Zulu nation was unlawful and invalid.
On 12 March 2021, Goodwill Zwelithini died aged 72 after being admitted to hospital for a diabetes-related illness. Since then, a complicated series of legal battles have ensued.
Prince Mbonisi s lawyer reminded the court that the late Goodwill Zwelithini nominated his wife, the late Queen Mantfombi, as regent in his will, arguing that this confirmed that Misuzulu kaZwelithini is not entitled to the throne by birthright.
Simakade said President Cyril Ramaphosa acted hastily in certifying his half-brother as the Zulu King because the issue of succession is still undecided.
